Probe the Ocean, Plow the Sea is memoir of service aboard a destroyer built during World War II but serving through the height of the Cold War in the early 1970s. Author Paul Jewell joined the USS Richard B. Anderson in the closing phases of the Vietnam War and remained with the ship until 1974. As seen through the eyes of an enlisted sonar technician, the Anderson was member of Destroyer Squadron 15 homeported in Japan to serve as the point of the spear for U.S. foreign policy in half the world’s ocean.
